I have had so much fun trying to live up to the self-imposed mantled of the High Priest of Geek and have sincerely loved getting to know so many of my fellow bloggers, toy collectors, comic fans and table-top gamers. You people are amazing.
However, priorities for me have changed recently.
First of all, sadly to say, Geek Orthodox has started to feel like work to me. I feel like I had set a standard and built up an obligation that my new schedule simply can't keep up. My mornings have been spent trying to come up with things to post, and that's backwards to what I wanted this blog to be about.
Secondly, the pressure from "the public" is getting to be a bit much. I know that sounds a little arrogant, and I swear that I don't mean it that way. I truly appreciate all of you who stop by often and comment and everything, but with that has come a barrage of emails from people I have never talked to before all trying to get me to review their web-comics, post their artwork, draw them a picture, make them a sandwich or whatever, and frankly, I'm tired of it. I literally got 22 emails yesterday from total strangers asking me for something. And that's no fun.
Third, I've just got other shit to do. I have a new full time job (which rules, by the way), am about to move into a new house and since my free time is shrinking drastically, I find that I want to use it more wisely and productively.
So, with all of these things in mind (and I've been thinking about this for a while), it is with a heavy heart that I have decided to end Geek Orthodox starting immediately.
Now for the nuts and bolts; I will leave G.O. up and running for the next couple of months for anyone who wants to read up on older posts, swipe pics or what have you, and after that it will be deleted. I will still be posting on my Conan blog, as it requires less of my attention and since I'll never stop being a Conan fan. I'll also be putting much more energy in my About.com Action Figures site, which makes sense, because I actually get paid to blog there. So, I'll still be around for the most part, just not to the degree, nor within the venue you have all come to know.
I also have plans to start making more artwork and posting it on DeviantArt, and my Flickr account (especially once G.O. officially shuts down) will become more of a personal photo collection of my various toys, travels, collectibles and what have you.
Of course, I'll still be reading all of my fellow bloggers' blogs, so don't be surprised if I show up in a comments section every now and then.
There are a select few of you that I do hope to keep in touch with, and you should know who you are and have my contact information if you ever want to say hi. :)
Well, I guess that's it.
I have sincerely loved this weird journey into the blogosphere. I have, with a full heart, loved meeting all of you. I have loved the fun contests, the ridiculous video blogs, the action figure war with fellow collectors (you know who you are), the bloggers who have inspired me and the ones I hope I have inspired.
Geek Orthodox has been a wonderful, wacky, awesome experiment for me and I have come out of this a different person, a better person, and I have all of you to thank for this.
So, with that, I say goodnight.
