Lamborghini Egoista, Lamborghini rounded off an amazing weekend of celebrations for its 50th anniversary with one final surprise - the new Egoista concept car.
It is a typically wild Lambo concept: a one-seater, which was unveiled at a gala dinner in Bologna at the end of the brand's 50th anniversary tour.
The new Lamborghini Egoista is powered by the brand's 5.2-litre V10 engine, as used in the Performante which took MSN Cars around Italy on the tour.
Lamborghini Egoista was designed under the eye of Walter De Silva, the design chief of the whole Volkswagen Group (Lamborghini's parent company). He said: "I am very attached to this Italian brand, being an Italian myself. I wanted to pay homage to and think up a vehicle to underline the fact that Lamborghinis have always been made with passion, and with the heart more than the head.
"This is a car made for one person only, to allow them to have fun and express their personality to the maximum. It is designed purely for hyper-sophisticated people who want only the most extreme and special things in the world. It represents hedonism taken to the extreme, it is a car without compromises, in a word: egoista (selfish)."
The Egoista was unveiled in a suitably wild fashion at the birthday dinner, appearing on a staged landing strip driven by chief executive Stephan Winkelmann. The exterior design is said to be modelled on an Apache attack helicopter's and aviation references abound.
The 600hp supercar is designed to mimic the look of a charging bull, its horns lowered. The Egoista's bodywork has aerodynamic flaps, which pop up and down depending on vehicle speed, to trim the airflow and maximise the car's stability. And there is no rear bodywork on the Egoista: the mechanicals are exposed, to save weight, boost engine cooling and maximise the car's show-off status.
“The cockpit, made completely of carbonfibre and aluminum, represents a sort of survival cell, allowing the driver to isolate and protect themselves from external elements,” added De Silva.
Lamborghini Egoista is largely made from carbonfibre, although Lamborghini mysteriously claims it is clad in anti-radar material. Is this the first car which can pass through speed cameras undetected? Possibly so...
